Matty, unlike his brother how only managed two games in the Anglo Italian Cup, at least managed a handful of league appearances in black and white. A product of the Newcastle United youth system (although born in Boro) Matty went on to play for Darlington, first on loan, and then on a permanent transfer. His most successful spell would be a 6 year spell at Barnsley from 1996 to 2002.
