Ritchie came through the youth system at Newcastle United. He never quite made the grade and after just two appearances, both in the Anglo Italian Cup, for United he was promptly moved on. HIs first move was a loan spell at Darlington before being moved on permanently to Ipswich. His only real successful spell was at Swansea however, where he played almost 140 senior games.
