A product of the NUFC youth academy, David was a Centre Back standing at 6'2" who would only make half a dozen appearances for Newcastle United's first team. Joining the youth set up relatively late, at 17, he graduated to the first team in 1999, playing his first Premier League game in a 3-1 loss against Everton under Ruud Gullit. And whilst he'd continue to be a bit part playing into the following season (19/20) his days were numbered as it was clear he wasn't going to make it at the top level.
A loan deal to Preston was in the offing, but after spending 2 days training with David Moyes squad the North West club turned the player down.
He would eventually get a loan spell at Grimsby, before another loan to Oldham was made a permanent move in 2001. Again, at Oldham, he couldn't commend a regular place in the team, making just 43 league appearances in 4 seasons.
But after brief spells at Carlisle and Stockport David eventually had to take early retirement with a knee injury at the age of just 27.
David went on to have some success with his Digital Media company, away from football following him leaving the game.
