A £3.8m transfer from Inter Milan in the summer of 2005 was something of a coup for Newcastle United and manager Graeme Souness. 'Emre' would spend three good years at United and prove quite a hit with the United faithful.
His first win for the Magpies would come against bitter rivals Sunderland. After setting up the opening goal for Shola Ameobi he would go on to score the winner in a 3-2 victory with a brilliant free kick.
In his 58 league games he would score 5 goals, 6 in 80 in all competitions with 13 of his appearances coming in Europe.
His time at the club was not without controversy however. On three separate occasions he was accused of racial abuse against opposing players. Twice he was found not guilty by an independent commission with all charges being dropped in the other case.
Emre was something of a hero for his National team too, playing 101 times for his senior side. And whilst he missed out on the Euro's in 2000 he did play a full part in his teams 3rd place finish in the 2002 World Cup.
Emre had 3 spells at Fenerbahce after his time on Tyneside, having started his career with Galatasaray. As well as Inter he also had a brief spell at Atletico Madrid and a longer time at Istanbul.
