Leon had a decent enough spell in his two seasons at St James Park. Averaging 1 goal in 4 he didn't make the best of starts however and soon found himself behind Andy Carroll and Peter Lovernkrands. Indeed between a lack of form and injuries he would have to wait until 2011 to make his first Premier League start, scoring a hat-trick in a 5-0 demolition of West Ham.

Eventually he would be transferred out of the club to Blackburn, against struggling to nail down a place and find form before becoming something of a journeyman, playing for 14 different clubs in a 14 year professional career.

Capped seven times for his country, he failed to find the net in green.
