Ralph best years were stolen from him due to WWII. A bustling outside-right, Ralph had an excellent start to his career playing with Torquay and then winning the league title with Arsenal before joining Newcastle United.

During his Arsenal days he would also be capped once for England.

He died in 2002 back home in Devon.
