Cacapa, a three times capped Brazil international, played for Newcastle United for just two seasons having joined from Lyon in 2007 on a free transfer.

Claudio had spent 6 glorious years at Lyon before his move. Winning 6 Leagues Titles, 4 French Cups and 1 League Cup during this time. He had captained the French Champions for 5 of those seasons. A staggering haul of trophies at a time when Lyon were totally dominant in French football.

His time at Newcastle United was not to be as pleasurable however. An indifferent first season at the club was followed by a second that was punctuated by a series of injuries. And despite being adaptable enough to even appear in midfield for the Magpies on occasion, Newcastle United did not take the option of a 3 year that could have been triggered in his contract and he was allowed to leave for free, joining Cruziero in Brazil on a free transfer.
