Starting his career with Victoria United, he soon moved to Woolwich Arsenal.

Spells at Bristol and Millwall followed before his move to Newcastle United in the 1900/1901 season.

He would go on to play for another 5 clubs, mostly in his homeland of Scotland before moving to the USA and tragically being killed in a rail accident aged just 37.
