Michael showed huge early promise after graduating form the Newcastle United youth ranks.

And whilst his debut would see him miss a penalty in a round of 32 League Cup tie against Everton, he would also play in the Champions League in 2002.

But his career would be hampered by both the players United had at the club ahead of him, including Shearer and Shola and he would end up having several loan spells at Watford, Nottingham Forest and Barnsley.

And whilst he would find the score sheet in both the Intertoto and FA Cup the moment he will be remembered most for is his only Premier League goal, in an away win at Sunderland, in what would turn out to be Alan Shearer's last game for Newcastle.

Michael would turn into something of a journeymen from that point on, with good spells at Cardiff and Ipswich, whilst he'd also spend a short time at Sunderland too, scoring 8 goals in 39 games for the Mackems.
